FAN CLUB WINTER #4 - PETIT BATEAU x MARIE-AGNÈS GILLOT

Marie-Agnès Gillot. French ballet dancer, choreographer...and so much more. A name often associated with contemporary dancers such as Carolyn Carlson, Pina Bausch and Angelin Preljocaj; as well as with imaginative Belgian fashion designer Walter Van Beirendonck; increasingly labeled an experimental dancer. Though, since her very 1st plié at age 5, Gillot has never ceased exploring the classic repertory. Her co-workers and friends describe her as "cosmic," "charismatic," "curious," "joyful," and "hyperactive." We like to think of her as one of us.

This year, she was chosen by très French brand Petit Bateau to create a capsule collection inspired by the freedom she expresses through movement. Called "Danse à pas de deux," the collection contains pieces for women, children and infants, with a celebratory campaign shot in the gardens of Palais Royal.

FROM DANCE ATTIRE TO CASUAL ATHLEISURE

A capsule collection impregnated with Marie-Agnès Gillot's personal allure, mixing pieces from dancers' wardrobes with Petit Bateau's iconic nautical style. This includes a belted jacket, a cape, a duffle bag (finally a sporty bag French girls would wear in the streets!) and a modern, chic long navy skirt in coated polyurethane.

But it's really the "studio" pieces that we find to be the quintessence of this "Singing (or dancing) in the Rain" collection. On our wishlist: the jersey marinière with a plunging V in the back as well as the striped shrugs and legwarmers. Guaranteed to give an elegant twist to active and transitional attire.

A COLLECTION FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Children - the number one consumers of the brand - are bien sûr not forgotten.
Inspired by her own childhood memories, those of a young girl "dreaming of being a dancer one day," Gillot designed tutu dresses with an incorporated bodysuit. The mother of a 3-year old boy, she also created waterproof navy overalls. A must-have for the traditional Fall strolls, chestnut picking in the country or simply to protect kids from those wet French winters.

Petit Bateau will donate all proceeds from the children's collection to the educational program "Ten Months of School and Opera," in partnership with the Academy of the National Opera of Paris and the Department of Education, a program that helps more than 1000 children in the primary school system, every year.
