Inside/Out: Introduce yourself.
Amanda Kloots:
Hi! I am Amanda Kloots. I am originally from Canton, Ohio but have lived in NYC for the past 16 years. I have spent most of my career as a Broadway performer, dancing on Broadway and all over the country. I also was a Radio City Rockette! I fell in love with fitness while dancing because it is so important to stay fit while having a dance career. Now a full time personal trainer, I have fallen in love with teaching and helping others achieve their goals.

I/O: How would you describe your genesis story?
AK:
I started my business after going through something I thought would never happen to me. I was married for 6 years and found myself getting a divorce. At the same time the Broadway show I was in had decided to close. I found myself in my thirties, alone, and with out a job. I knew that if I wanted certain things in my life I had to create them for myself. As a woman living in a big city going through a lot of changes I was terrified, but I knew that I wanted something of my own! I love working hard, especially if it is something I believe in. I decided to start my training clients privately and then teach a workout I created with a jump rope called The Rope. Some days I second-guessed everything but I just kept going. To work for myself now and have a successful business means the world to me. I just want to keep working hard, create, and help people enjoy working out!

I/O: What are you working on now?
AK:
I am working on getting videos on my site for people to watch and do wherever they live and I am also in the midst of creating my own rope.

I/O: What are your thoughts on female empowerment?
AK: I love female power! Women are amazing! There is nothing like teaching class to 40 women who are all there to work hard. We are capable of so many things and I love that. I love when women want to help and support one another. This is what life is all about, to help and love others.

I/O: How do you achieve - or strive to achieve - harmony in your life?
AK:
I rely on my family, friends, finance, and my faith! I guess the 4 F’s! Haha.

I/O: What experts do you admire? Who are your teachers?
AK:
I admire my favorite Broadway director/choreographer Susan Stroman. She was a pioneer for women in the Broadway community. She has shown me what being a true leader should look like. She is graceful, patient, strong, creative, open-minded, kind, fun, and demands the absolute best!

I/O: What does your community look like?
AK:
I love my community! The women I train are all different. Different ages, heights, shapes, and sizes! I have mother/daughters that come together, best friends, doctors, bloggers, investment bankers, and lawyers - you name it! The best part is is that they all share the same goal – to work hard but smile and have fun!

I/O: Who or what helped you get where you are today?
AK:
So many people! My parents, my Bandier family, my clients, and my friends. I could not have done it alone!

I/O: What challenges have you faced and what obstacles might you be experiencing at the moment (on any level)?
AK:
There were days that I didn’t have anyone signed up for my class! I was so scared that what I had thought was an amazing workout, no one understood. I do believe that if you keep believing in yourself and your creation it just takes time for others to get on board. Don’t stop believing in YOU.

I/O: A mantra, tagline or motto?
AK:
My favorite tagline is "Jump, Skip, Smile"!

I/O: You are a caregiver to so many people. In class alone, your energy is incomparable, your smile and good humor infectious. So tell us, who takes care of you?
AK:
My fiancé is one amazing man. He pushed me to go out on my own and has supported every move I made and still make. He massages my feet at night and kisses me goodbye every morning when I’m leaving at 6am! I don’t know what I’d do without his tender love and care!

I/O: Three words.
AK:
Positivity, Power, and Performance.

I/O: Tell us about your rituals. And can we talk about your Minetta Tavern burger? Cupcakes? Is this really happening? Are you a unicorn?
AK: HAHA, yes they are real! Listen, I work hard!! I train clients all day and work out with each and every one of them. Typically I stick to a healthy diet and love my Sakara deliveries throughout the week.  Eating plant-based organic meals make me feel great and sustain my body through my tough days. However I do treat myself! I don’t believe in deprivation or dieting. Work hard, take care of yourself, and start to listen to your body.  No one can tell you what is best. Learn who you are and what you need. When you workout, workout hard and smart. Don’t take one minute for granted!

I/O: Do you ever fall off the wellness wagon?
AK:
Oh sure I do! I’m human and live in NYC! I have learned through the years that I feel best when I am in tuned to what my body needs to feel good. If I fall off of that I started to feel crappy so it isn’t long before I get back on the wagon. My advice: don’t try to do everything at once!  Take one thing at a time so that you aren’t overwhelmed. I think women put too much pressure on themselves so they cut out carbs, alcohol, dairy, sugar, meat, etc. all at once. You won’t last two weeks before you are invited to dinner and feel guilty. We have all been there! Start with one thing at a time and stick to that for a little while then add things in as you feel healthier!

I/O: What references, resources or tools would you recommend to our community?
AK:
I love reading Well and Good, I love the Sakara Life Magazine, and I love my Jawbone Up that tracks my daily steps!

I/O: What role does travel play in your life? Where do you plan to go in 2017?
AK:
Travel is starting to play a big role. This summer I will be going to the Bahamas once a month to teach at the One & Only Resort (Editor’s note: with Bandier). I have been traveling to LA a lot, my other favorite city in the country. I also hope to be going on a honeymoon!

I/O: What role does music play in your life? Do you have a "power" song?
AK:
Let’s Go by Tiesto always gets me going! It’s my favorite warm up song. I listen to music all day every day and am always trying to find the best new songs or the best songs from years ago. It’s a constant battle!

I/O: What makes you happy?
AK:
Love, my puppies, my family, working out, smiles!

I/O: What do you do when something makes you unhappy?
AK:
I cry. I’m a Pisces so I am pretty sensitive and emotional.

I/O: What inspires you?
AK:
The feeling of success inspires me, my clients inspire me, and anyone who is working hard inspires me.

I/O: Any advice, tips, hacks or secrets?
AK:
When you workout…FOCUS! Stop thinking about brunch, lunch, dinner, your job, the weather, etc. Use every minute. Put your mind in the game, look at yourself in the mirror, and really think about what you are doing! All the stuff you have waiting for you will be there when you are done.

I/O: A desire, a wish, an intention?
AK:
I desire to keep growing, working, and teaching! A wish for the future is to be a mom one day. I love children and I think mothers are incredible human beings!

I/O: Where can our community find you?
AK:
In real life at Studio B! Online: AmandaK, on Facebook, on Instagram: Amanda Kloots and The Rope, and on Spotify.
